Red Cone Pass - Webster Pass - Radical Hill - Middle Fork - S.O.B. Hill - Georgia Pass to Jefferson

On The Rocks Jeep Club

Run by Tom, Eric and Erica +1, Kevin, Roy and friend Kurt Sauer, an active duty Sailor in the market for a new Wrangler

This was a beautiful day for a trail run, except for the top of Red Cone.  The wind was gusting like 60, 70+ MPH up there, and it was pretty peckin' cold.

It was a first time run for all of us - this combination of trails.  It goes to show one doesn't have to drive to Crested Butte, to have a nice, scenic, wildflower viewing drive.

As the trail title suggests, we ran Red Cone, continued down the west side of Webster on up Radical Hill, where at the top, we were fortunate to practically drive through a herd of Mountain Goats.  The pics we took of them were the most notable on the whole trip as we really didn't have 'photog's on this trip, as everyone was busy driving.

We then headed south on the very picturesque plateau trails towards our eventual goal of SOB Hill.  It has been a desire of mine to get back to SOB since I descended it in my stock TJ, several years ago.  I have searched for it unsuccessfully in the past (from memory, without maps), so I was tickled to actually find it this time.  I must say I was disappointed by the 'bland state' of this little run this time, since it appears all the rocks have been moved out of the trail in order to allow passage for less than qualified vehicles.  I can somewhat understand this, as one, coming from the south has to drive several, mostly one way miles, only to find themselves at an impass.  Thing is, they ought to have turned around and gone back the way they came before they 'undecimated' the hill.

Oh yeah...  I really wish OTR could adopt SOB Hill!  That'd be so cool...  We could pull all the rocks back into the trail.  Whad'ya think the Forest Service would have to say about it?..   Eric?

SOB Hill = Secluded Obstacly Burdened Hill.  But not so much these days.  The trail was cleared of most of the best.

Personally, I just felt so peachie about finding it. :)
