Page 1 of 4 21 Road – Near Grand Junction, Colorado On the Rocks Jeep Club – June 19, 2010 Run by Gary & Susan Sheets, Roy Lenhardt, Kevin Stoeckle, Tom Willis, Eric Sandoval, Rose Shaw and two young guests Directions: Heading west on I70, on the west end of Grand Junction, take a right at the 22 Road (Hwy 50) exit to 21 Road – approx 1 mile. Follow 21 Road north for approximately 15 miles where the road eventually starts following and crossing a wash bed (the trail). You can apparently drop into the wash bed at any time, and the difficulty pretty much increases the farther you go up the wash, where 21 Road, which serves as a bypass to the trail, has been washed out and the trail is extremely narly
This was the first time I had run this trail. My initial opinion is 'ehhhh, I don't know'. But for me, this was kind of a shakedown run, and as such, I was a bit 'reserved' throughout. We hit the washbed quite a ways before Toyota Rock, where there were no "mandatory" obstacles, but plenty of optional, 'Manly' made ones. Gary and Eric difinitely made the most of some of these "Options". See the pics and vids later in this article. The 'Trail' / 21 Road has two extremes that range from the asphalt of I70 to EXTREMELY extreme stuff, which some may find fun! Not the mostextremest of extremes, but its up there. And that's just about where what's left of 21 Road (The Bypass), dissappears into the the never never regions - Washed out, with no apparent reinstatement anytime soon. We don't know what's beyond the washout. However, Gary gave it a whole of of thought before finally succuming to a turn-around at Carnage Rock.
