Spring Creek trail on May 29, 2004. Spring CreekJeep trail is an 8 rated off road trail if you do all the obstacles and a 6 or 7 if you use the bypasses. To get to the trail take I-70 to the Downieville exit (234) which is just past Idaho Springs. Take the frontage road on the North side of the highway which passes under the highway turn left on Alvarado Road. Cross the bridge and take a left the trail is straight ahead.

When you get to the fork in the road go left to the wall obstacle right to bypass it. Follow the trail till you find the metal sign that says Spring Creek and follow the trail up the hill.

But without lockers and being new to off roading, he needs a tug from Roy to get up to the top.

alt
Coming up the switchbacks at the end of the trail.

alt
Why stop here.

alt
Marks and Sherri's tie rod mysteriously decides to bend with no rock in sight. So with no way to steer we ended up stopping for a trail repair.

alt
Roy had the great idea of turning the tie rod so the bend was straight down and using the jack to straighten it. It worked like a charm and there was no problem driving the jeep home.

It was a fun trip with only minor mishaps a nut needed to be replaced on Dave's leaf spring and a bent tie rod needed to be straightened on Mark and Sherri's Jeep.
