Red Cone Trail is a 7 rated trail that has a 9 rated scare factor if you do not have extreme confidence in your driving and equipment. To get to the trail take 285 about 3 miles past Grant and turn right on County Road 60. At about 5 miles you find a campground and a fork in the road take the far right turn. You are now on the beginning of Red Cone Trail. As you continue down the trail you will come to one more fork turn right and follow the trail to where it meets with Webster Pass. The first part of the trail contains a few fairly rocky sections and weaves through some narrow switch backs in a heavily treed area. When you get above the tree line you see the part of the trail that everyone talks about a shelf road across the top of a ridge well above tree line. There is an area above tree line that climbs the mountain with two options the left is the harder of the two.
We had light rain on and off during the day. From Red Cone we proceeded to Radical hill and exited the area through the town of Montezuma.
